| Gary Payton Skyline High School Career Biography |
 |
(1984-1987)
Gary Payton chose to attend Skyline High School and had to petition to attend since he lived outside of the district. Payton was kicked off of the basketball team his sophomore season due to poor grades and the team finished with only one league victory that season without him. Payton averaged 18.3 points his junior season and increased that to 20.6 his senior year. His junior (19-7) and senior (20-5) teams were the best in school history and won the league championship both seasons. The team had three future professional players in himself, Greg Foster, who he later played with in Seattle and Henry Turner. Those teams also produced eight division 1 college players. However both teams lost in the first round of the Northern California Playoffs. |
