Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan has many accomplishments besides being considered the greatest to ever play the game. His greatest achievements include winning the olympic gold medal in both 1984 and 1992 with the Dream Team. He was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 1985. Jordan won the MVP award 6 times and led the Chicago Bulls to 6 NBA Championships. Jordan was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1987-88. In 1996 Michael Jordan was named on the NBA's 50 Greatest Players in history. Jordan was named to multiple All-NBA First Teams throughout his career as well as being named to the NBA All-Star team 11 times during his career and recorded the only triple-double in an All-Star game. Michael Jordan shoes also changed the shoe industry forever with the release of the Nike Air Jordan 1 in 1984. And in 1996 the Jordan Brand was born with the release of the Air Jordan XIII.

In 1984 the Air Jordan legacy was born, Nike signed Jordan to a $2.5 million deal for 5 years plus royalties and other fringe benefits. The first Air Jordan logo was created by Peter Moore that used a basketball with wings lifting it. The introduction of the Air Jordan I turned the athletic shoe industry upside down. Before the Air Jordan I, most basketball shoes were white, but the bold black and red styling of the Jordan I went against convention. The NBA banned the shoe from the league in response, but Jordan wore them anyway, racking up serious fines of up to $5000 a game. Nike, of course, was more than happy to pay these to keep the shoes on Jordan's feet and in the public eye. All this controversy and Jordan's spectacular numbers that year served to put the Air Jordan line on the road to becoming a household name. In 1997 the Jordan Brand was born and the Air Jordan XIII was the first shoe released under the brand.
